what do you wanna study at uni? I got a b at maths GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education, for those of you not in the know about the British Education system + Lookin...)

but i did get 4A*'s, 3A's, 2B's + 1 D...

so is an A* a perfect score?

in Murrica we have it where 90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, then its different in different places, but here a C is 75-79 and a D is 70-74 and a F is anything less than 70. some people consider a 100 an A+ being the perfect score, but i just consider it an A.

well UK uni scores are different to UK school scores.

firstly the grading is totally different.

School - 90%+ = A*, 80-90% = A, 70-80% = B...etc....

Uni - 40% = Pass, 50% = C, 60% = B, 70%+ = A

its pretty much the same from high school to college here, gotta get over 70 to pass.

i dunno out our colleges, but our public school systems are terrible here, so if they expect us to that good in college id assume college, save Ivy League and such, are not the greatest either.

well yeah, I'm retaking because I'm aimimg for 5-10 *'s with all rest A's..... although I'm gonna get like an E in french...... shit subject.....

the point is that if I wanna get into those top 5, I gotta put the work in......

Aim is a cambridge place, because you get in there, and you're sorted for life. Still though.... any of the top 5 is what I want....

im probably going to start french next year. 3rd year german + 1st year french = john speaking "germenchlish"

I did a half a year of Italian back when I was in year 4, so...... 9/10 years old?

was the ABSOLUTE basics, but I've forgotton ALMOST ALL of it now..... can only really remember bonjourno, verde, and rose. I used to be quite good at it, knowing basic talking phrases, animals, colours, basic objects, places etc etc, but because it was only for half a year when I was little, it's all gone now.....


and as for German; I did that for the first 3 years of secondary school alongside French, but then gave it up at the end of year 9, and have been doing solo French ever since - so 3 German and almost 5 French....

still..... languages.... aren't exactly my fortay (mehehe.... I shall NEVER spell that word correctly..... ), I'm more of a numbers person really....

i was a numbers person, up until 9th grade. now my math teachers suck and i pass just barely.

im in 2nd year German now and according to my Frau we know all of the verb tenses in German. So all i really need to learn is any other parts of speech, ive got all the ones i can think of in English down so i doubt there will be any more. Plus of course expanding my vocabulary.

the only reason im comfortable with taking another language is because i do so well in German without trying. i finished with the second highest grade in my class (the students that take German at the same time as me, not all of the kids in my grade) behind a senior who has to have everything perfect, who did extra credit and whatnot to finish with a 100 in the class.

id like to take italian. i hate when people take spanish. its too common, you ask just about anyone in high school and theyve taken some spanish. people say its the best language to learn with all the mexicans coming here, but what do the mexicans do in the work force? labor. learning a european language (i know spain is in europe ) give you access to major foreign trade, which will make you more money than telling mexicans what to do at a construction site. kids think theyre smart, pah.

anybody else's school have "spanish for native speakers"? its spanish class that is basically the harder level spanish classes for the younger students who speak spanish already. it counts as a foreign language though. which is dumb because they should have to learn a new language too. its like taking english as your foreign language "they speak it different in england". thats just dumb.

cambridge if possible, or if not UCL because it's the country's second best school, and the 6th or 7th in the world last year..... plus it's just round the corner.....

no..... there are LOADS of universities in the UK......

a hell of a lot older than your ones too.....

how does a university being older make it better? your country as a whole is older, its obvious itd have some things that were older than America.

that being said, do european students ever "study abroad in America" because American students seem to always be "studying abroad in Europe".

i didnt say that made them better........



and yuh...... my headteacher gave me and my parents a lecture two days ago about unis, and she said that american unis are a possibility.....


only problem is that 1) travel there costs a bomb.
2) because of that, I can't come home often, so can't see parents a lot
and 3) American university system is weird, and long winded. Instead of specialising from the off, you have to do like 2 years of general studies before starting to specialise. And as well as that, American institutes generally charge a lot more than British ones.

all reasons why I'm staying here.


That being said, the quality of American schools nowadays are the best you can find, so yeah you'll get plenty of foreign students....

haha yeah, my dad looked at going to the University of Hawaii when he was planning college. his dad told him that if he went he would have to stay there until he graduated, as in no traveling back due to cost. lol. he ended up in Rome though! Rome, Georgia that is....

wow in american college 92-100%=A , 84-91=B and so on , but less than 64%=Fail

i recommend community colleges for the first 2 years, much cheaper, stay at home, and same education as 4 year university....

honestly even if you are becomming a doctor, lawyer or engineer, the first two years of college are just basic english,math and a few other required classes like speech and economics...why pay big bucks to take them at a university...save your money for the next two years....

lookin- thats good thinking. ive also heard to do the easier general studies classes at your school and then do harder (math) at community during summer break.

bloodi- i think if he was going to come overseas to go to college he'd pick a better school than florida. im a fan of the teams, but ive never heard of it being an academic powerhouse.

when i was younger, i was looking for a university to take my PhD (life WAYYYY to busy now for that )

each college had a poster hanging in the electronics department...

one college showed two guys in lab coats working with lasers
